Professor Anthony de Buys Roessingh is a committed paediatric surgeon, researcher, and educator. A specialist in burns, facial clefts, and congenital malformations, he combines clinical expertise with cutting-edge research and long-standing humanitarian engagement.

 

More about Anthony de Buys Roessingh

A Swiss national, Professor Anthony de Buys Roessingh completed his medical studies in Lausanne in 1994 and earned his MD in 1998. He became a board-certified paediatric surgeon (FMH) in 2005 and went on to complete a PhD in surgical sciences in Paris (2007) and a habilitation to direct research (HDR) in 2013.

Appointed Associate Professor at the University of Lausanne’s Faculty of Biology and Medicine as of August 1, 2024, he currently serves as Chief Physician at the CHUV, where he leads the paediatric plastic surgery unit and coordinates the burns centre. He also heads the multidisciplinary facial cleft clinic. His ongoing research focuses on the use of fetal skin and muscle cells to develop biological dressings for treating burns and deep wounds in children, with a clinical trial scheduled for 2025. He is also involved in collaborative studies on autologous cell therapy for severe burns, in partnership with the University of Zurich.

Beyond his clinical and academic roles, Professor de Buys Roessingh has worked for over two decades in West Africa (Benin and Togo), operating on children and overseeing hundreds of consultations. He is president of the Foundation for Surgery for African Children, as well as several scientific societies, including the Swiss Society of Paediatric Surgery and the Francophone Association for Facial Clefts.
